Pumpkin Carving

A brief History of pumpkin carving professionals

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving or jack-o-lanterns can trace its roots back to 19th century Irish immigrants. In their home land, they would carve grotesque faces in hollowed out turnips. Upon arriving in America, they soon found pumpkins were a superior alternative.

It would be several decades before professional pumpkin carvers would start to emerge from the cities, townships and swamps from which they honed their craft. The age of the Internet opened the doors for these craftsmen and women showcase their skills to an eager audience. Sean Fitzpatrick was one of the first of these professionals to hit main stream media success after a feature on NBC's Today Show in 2004. Since then he has carved literally thousands of pumpkins for corporate and private clients all over the United States. Since then his pumpkin carving skills have been featured on ABC News, 20/20, Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray and CBS, The Talk. He now spends much of his time from September to November traveling from coast to coast to service an ever expanding client base.
